Hellgate Eternity, formerly known as Hellgate Global, just opened its Open Beta Server. Unfortunately, the game is blocking the IP addresses of certain countries from accessing the game because of some sort of agreement with Local Country Game Publishers with HanbitSoft. The blocked country IP addresses are Korea, Japan, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao.
If you are from any of the above mentioned countries then you won’t be able to access and play Hellgate Eternity. I’m in the Philippines and that also means I won’t be able to play Hellgate Eternity as well. It sucks but what can we do about it? As far as I know, we don’t have any Local Game Publisher publishing Hellgate here in the Philippines. So, where do we play Hellgate? I sure won’t play Hellgate Resurrection because I don’t speak nor read Japanese and I sure hell don’t speak nor read Korean too.
The publisher of Hellgate Eternity cut-off a lot of potential paying players by blocking the entire Southeast Asian region from accessing and playing Hellgate Eternity. Seriously, not everyone in Southeast Asia speaks and read Japanese and Korean, so they shouldn’t expect the entire SEA region to play in the Korean and Japanese servers of Hellgate, even if those servers are the official servers for Hellgate in Southeast Asia.
The question now is, how do we get in Hellgate Eternity? One easy way is by using a VPN or a Virtual Private Network. I’ve searched Google for a Free VPN service provider and the one that I tried and worked for me is proXPN. Fortunaly, proXPN uses servers from the United States which kinda makes it ideal for Hellgate Eternity. The only problem I encountered with proXPN is the speed.
Free users are throttled down to 300 kbps only but that is still much better than dial-up right? At least, it doesn’t disconnect you every few minutes or limit your download to 100 MB per day like the other Free VPN services that I found.
To start using proXPN, go to the official website of proXPN and download the program. Install the program after downloading it and go back to proXPN’s website to create a FREE account. Run proXPN and login using the free account you created. Once you are connected to proXPN’s Free VPN, you are now ready to run Hellgate Eternity, login to your account and play the game.
Hellgate Eternity will be very laggy but I don’t think that’s the VPN because a lot of players are experiencing huge amount of lag right now too. Hopefully, the lag will get better as the number of players trying the game goes down as the days pass by.
With the help of proXPN, I was able to login and play Hellgate Eternity even if it was very laggy. I played right through the tutorial area without problems. So, if your IP address is blocked by Hellgate Eternity but you still want to play the game then simply follow what I did and you’ll be in-game in no time at all.
