Are you having problems with Uncharted Waters Online? Does the program stops responding and freezes your computer or does it crashes and displays a Fatal and a Collision Error messages? Well, if you are then I think I have the solution to your problem.
A couple of days ago, I downloaded and installed Uncharted Waters Online on my computer. The installation went smoothly but it kinda took me a few days to finish downloading the game client because it was very, very slow. After downloading and installing it, I tried to run it and the game launcher loaded without problems. The problem came after logging in to the game.
The game client stopped responding and it eventually froze my computer. The only thing I was able to do to get out of it was by booting the computer by pressing the reset button. After the boot up, I tried it again but this time it gave out two error messages before crashing back to the desktop. A collision error message and a fatal error message.
Somewhat annoyed, I checked out the game’s forum to search for some solutions and I found out that I wasn’t alone. Other people were also having the same problems and by browsing through multiple threads, two things seem to pop-out. These two things were AVG and Windows Vista and, unfortunately, I used both these programs.
The game, Uncharted Waters Online, uses GameGuard to protect itself from hacks and cheats. I’m already familiar with GameGuard because other MMORPGs also use it to protect itself but, it seems that, AVG has a serious problem with it. AVG sees GameGuard as a threat and blocks it. Unfortunately, if GameGuard can’t run then the game its protecting can’t run as well.
The other thing is Windows Vista. I found out that the game has some stability issues with Windows Vista. I don’t exactly use Windows Vista but I do use Windows 7 which is just an upgraded and better version of Windows Vista. If it has stability issues with Vista then the chance that it will have issues with Windows 7 is there as well.
Now that I have a couple of clues on what’s causing the problem, I was able to come up with a probable solution and test it. Fortunately, my test worked and I was able to play the game without encountering any problems after applying it.
The solution was pretty simple. Below is what I did to fix it.
- I disabled AVG’s Resident Shield feature and I also added the game’s folder or path into its exception list
- I right-clicked on the game’s icon and changed the compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 3
- and to be sure, I also set the game to run in Administrator Mode
After doing and applying those changes, I was able to run and play the game without problems. The only drawback to this is that I’ll have to switch AVG’s Resident Shield on and off every time I want to play this game. Forgetting to do so could lead to crashes and/or freezing.
Uncharted Waters Online is an exploration themed MMORPG based on the NES/SNES classic, Uncharted Waters and Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. These games were a big hit in Asia during my younger years and I still love it specially New Horizons. I spent a lot of money playing that game back in High School. (I never played any of the other sequels.)
When I found out about Uncharted Waters Online, I immediately signed up, downloaded and installed the game. Unfortunately, I had problems with it but not anymore. Now I can play it without any problems and if you are having the same problems as I was then just follow the steps above. It worked for me and, hopefully, it will work for you as well.
